Seattle-area bigot Ron Judd discusses hunters using the appropriate put-downs:
The idea is that some of the nation’s top, ahem, competitive hunters (yes, we, too are picturing a bunch of Ollie North types stumbling around in Elmer Fudd hats) will be videotaped on “hunting ranches” as they scurry around hiding behind tree stumps, and grunting and belching a lot, in pursuit of white-tail deer and other steely prey.
Nice guy.

If you buy stuff from Audible, you’ll find it comes in the .aa format. The largest downside to Audible’s format is I cannot edit out the David Sedaris from my This American
Life collection. I found a forum post which I will reproduce here for posterity:
There exists no clear guide to add audible support to dbpoweramp, here is what I did:
1) Install dbpoweramp and the dbPowerAmp DirectShow plugin. When the install completes replace “.xyz” in the text file with “.aa” and save it.
2) Install AudibleManager AND Windows Media Player Filter (bottom of download page):http://www.audible.com/software
3) Run dBpowerAMP Configuration:
Start >> Programs >> dBpowerAMP Music Converter >> Configuration >> dMC Configuration (this step reads the config you edited in step 1)
That is it, dbpoweramp can read audible files and Sveta Portable audio can upload Audible files to portables that support it.
Now I’ll be able to do all of the stuff I want to my TAL collection.

A knife-wielding grocery store employee attacked eight co-workers Friday, seriously injuring five before a witness pulled a gun and stopped him, police said. …
The attacker, chasing one victim into the store’s parking lot, was subdued by Chris Cope, manager of a financial services office in the same small shopping center, Higgins said.
Cope said he grabbed a 9mm semiautomatic pistol from his pickup truck when he saw the attacker chasing the victim “like something in a serial killer movie.”
“When he turned around and saw my pistol, he threw the knife away, put his hands up and got on the ground,” Cope told The Associated Press. “He saw my gun and that was pretty much it.”

Here is the invite I sent out:
The Church of the Ballistic Coefficient will be holding services this Sunday in Kirkland
starting at 10:00 sharp. Following a half-hour of fellowshipping about the three rules
of safety, the flock will adjourn to Monroe for outdoor festivities. Guidance will
be provided; you may carpool if you wish (the CBC’s van can hold a few more adults).
After the celebration (when everyone gets bored or hungry) we can return to Kirkland
for comestibles.
Meet at my apartment at 10:00 AM. Anyone that wants to celebrate should have the three
rules memorized:
- All guns are loaded. Always.
- Do not point a gun at anything you are not willing to kill or destroy.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
I am expecting six or seven worshippers. What I will provide those people:
…
You are welcome to obtain your own ammunition if you desire.
I will provide additional paper and clay targets. I have plenty of ear protection
(both muffs and plugs), but I only have one spare set of eye protection. You should
acquire your own shooting goggles before Sunday. This is an unimproved area, so bring
a camping chair if you want to sit anywhere other than the ground.
Oscar, Enrique,
and Adia showed up. We celebrated for about five hours and left. Fun was had by
all. I have been asked how quickly my video camera recovers from loud sounds (how
fast does the audio compressor release?) so here’s
a video, you decide. You can hear the birds almost instantly after the muzzle
blast.

but some people want it to be:
Rosen said the Red Cross should have someone at the national level to ensure that
people with disabilities are adequately cared for during a disaster. Local chapters
often overlook the issue until it’s too late, he said. — Jeff
Rosen
The Red Cross has no mandate to do any such thing; it is a loosely coupled federation
of volunteers. If Rosen is so worried about the issue, he could put his volunteers
into the Red Cross org to see that adequate care is provided for the disabled.

“As an American you never experience things like this. You
see it on TV, but it’s nothing like this.”
–Joanne Nucho
I’m thinking of all the Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan, and all of those that fought in Vietnam and Korea – and on and on. The US is a martial society, sorry that you missed the memo.

Some cities do more for renters. San Francisco allows only 200 conversions a year.
San Diego requires converted buildings to have units set aside for households earning
less than median income. The mayor of Somerville, Mass., a Boston suburb, recently
proposed that landlords give elderly residents four years’ notice before turning an
apartment into a condo.
…
Still, she said the last three months in her apartment were a “nightmare.” She’d like
to see city officials provide more financial aid to renters and require developers
to give them more than 90 days’ notice before conversions.
The type of control she seeks is
called… renting buying a house (condo, whatever).

For several nights last month, a group of thugs with black hooded sweat shirts pulled
tight over their heads, including at least one in “angry” clown makeup, terrorized
visitors to Pierce County’s Fort Steilacoom Park, police say.
The group cried “woo, woo, Juggalo” as they assaulted park visitors with a machete
and fists. They stole cellphones, cash and wallets and even threatened to cut their
victims’ heads off, according to court documents.
Nice,
guys.
