As I suspected, my Zune 80 gig is faulty. I spent 39 minutes on the phone with tech support proving that this was the case; once they agreed, a repair order was established. This will be much like the iPod repair cha-cha (ship empty box, ship loaded box, unit returned) with one delta: the guy on the phone assured me that since I bought it from Zune Originals, if the device wasn’t repaired a new one with the exact same engraving would be shipped out. The engraved iPod I bought from Apple was just swapped out, which is what I would have expected.
