Dear co-worker,

15 July 2008

Don’t be offended if I ask to see your badge. I know most people wandering the halls are supposed to be here; however, your countenance struck me a little off. Please allow that my curiosity was so aroused that I shadowed you until you got to where you were going; I wanted to ensure that your meeting was with good intentions.

If you wonder why you drew my interest, it’s because I’m a detail-oriented guy. On a day where we set near-record high temperatures here in Redmond, you were wandering our shared workplace in a stocking cap. More appropriate for the slopes, it wasn’t the only item that piqued my interest; your heavy winter coat seemed out of season. That you were carrying a heavy backpack was also of note; I would have put you in the “motorcycle rider carrying gear” category, except you weren’t wearing leathers or carrying a helmet.

That nothing happened at work that ended up on the news is all the evidence I need that my concern was misplaced; forgive me my trespass against your privacy.
