Things I love

In which money is turned into smoke, dust, blood

I’ve been cleared hot to spend some money for the enjoyment of Boomershoot attendees; in one case, you’ll see something this year: a different fireball! I’ll probably spend a couple hundred or so making this year’s fireball much more interesting. The smart money will be on standing back; I’m either going to fail spectacularly (spectators set alight, tents engulfed in flames), fail miserably (spend a bunch of money and have another sucky fireball), or succeed spectacularly (spectators almost set alight, tents almost engulfed in flames).

In the other case, we’re getting serious about building a production shed that’s wind and water tight. BATFE regulations require it to be 50′ from the Taj; this may make life harder, but it won’t stop the shed from happening. It would be nice to have all of the equipment set up year-round, without any breakdown beyond cleaning.; it would also mean we could work longer without being exposed to the elements. I’m picturing bar stools to sit on to make production more comfortable.

  1. I dunno if you could incorporate it into your plans, but would you be interested in lighting off said fireball with the S&W 1917 revolver carried in the Chosin campaign by USMC Sgt. Orville Bierkle (and used against the enemy, if his war diary counts as evidence)? I have some ancient .45 ACP tracers if that would help.

His daughter has told me that he would have wholeheartedly approved of Boomershoot, fireballs, etc.

  2. I’d love to use it; the issue is 45 ACP is sub-sonic, and we need something supersonic to set it off. Could we make plans for next year? I could set up something with a shotgun primer; shoot a plate, it sets off the primer, boom.

  5. We have something we’ll be talking about at the dinner that may be of interest.

When I say we, I mean I, and I haven’t cleared it with Joe.

  6. Ry, saw your post on Joe’s Blog about tracer .223. I need some, interested in selling some of your stockpile?

I’ll be at the site Thursday afternoon with Gene Econ, helping with the clinic.
