RIP, Mary Jane Proctor Jones
My last surviving grandparent passed away last week. I most recently wrote about her inadvertent introduction of Rush into my life. I wish I had something further to say.
View from within a vehicle during a tsunami
Hard video to watch. We are creatures of habit; note the guy who turns back in water up past his ankles to close the door on the vehicle he just abandoned.
Successful experiment ends in failure
I recently picked up an Eye-Fi pro hoping that I could put it in a cheap video camera, use “endless memory mode”, and have 24/7 security cams that are constantly backed up. My Kodak Play camera does not react well to the filesystem changing underneath it – the screen went white and the camera got very hot. My JVC (which I bought on sale for way, way less than what it’s listed for) crams the video onto the card – but the card itself cannot sustain an HD video being written to the filesystem while one is read from the back.
So, even though I didn’t get the answer I wanted, I’m tossing this out there in case anyone else is thinking the same thing.
Anyone want to buy two lightly-used Eye Fi cards? I have an 8 gig and a 4 gig.

Giving away a camera
The startup I work for is giving away a camera. I’d appreciate it if you entered the contest.
Department of Education door-kickers serve no-knock warrant on wrong house
No, really. Via Linoge; he says the Onion, I’d say Brazil.
Why I pioneered the “stay the fuck out of the meadow” route
At this year’s shoot, I drove on the field south of the tree line as well as the one south of the Taj in order to avoid this.
