Edge finding
A long time ago, Lyle showed me that the human fingernail is a very high-resolution edge finder. Levered on the end of your highly enervated fingers, running your fingernail along a finished metal surface will allow you to find changes in finish too small to be seen without very close inspection; obviously, it lets you find joints where parts are joined in non-obvious ways.
