New project underway
People stalking my flickr feed will have seen this picture:
That’s a P8079HP by English Electric Valve Co LTD. What’s that you say? It’s a cascade tube for night vision, made after WW2 in England for tank sights. I picked one up surplus from England (duh); with instructions, I’ll soon slap a 6V battery pack on there and have some night vision. I debated what I wanted to build, but in the end I decided to order some sub-$10 teleconverters for Nikon lenses from KEH; I’ll pull the worst-looking one apart to scavenger the F-mount flange for one end of the tube and the lens flange for the other. In the end, I should have a night vision lens converter for Nikon cameras for well under $200 all told; a nice, laser-cut case is going to bump the price up a bit, but I’d like things to Look Nice.
