Sunday at the park
Listening to Titanium Sporkestra practice War Pigs on the waterfront, torching a Carlos Torano. Nice end to the day.
The ending was not what I expected
Bob and Tom are still somewhat funny — who knew? I’m tempted to get a shot of butterscotch on the side of my next latte, though.
Hunger Games
Joe and I saw this Friday evening; I think we both liked it well enough. As the original is a YA series, it adapts well to the screen: broad themes rendered in colorful strokes. I haven’t read the source material, but I think I would have liked the protagonist to be a little more results-oriented: why wasn’t Katniss out killing people? She only kills indirectly or after extreme provocation. Of course, Thresh (“Just this once, Twelve. For Rue.“) dies off screen: how can you kill someone that spared the lead character, when only a handful remain? Why didn’t Katniss grab the supplies for the other (dead) people? What was that little hand signal that started riots in Rue’s district about?
As I said earlier, it could have been tightened up by an hour and not lost anything; regardless, highly unlikely you were awaiting my input on seeing it, but Hunger Games is a worthy distraction.
