Details on the dumb thing I did
Lyle asked for some clarification last week and I missed his request; so I’ll fill in everything I can remember. I used a small Mt Dew bottle and it wasn’t full (it was probably a 12oz bottle, maybe half or 3/4 full). I put the boomerite a few inches in front of the plate; I don’t remember how thick, but it was at least 3/4″. It was a square-cut tie plate, not the usual rounded type with sloping shoulders. While I did put the explosives in front of the plate, I also put it on a gravel-covered road. When I shot the boomerite, the plate reflected a lot of gravel back at us. I was at far too close a range. Lyle and I started looking for the plate on the side of the road, in the general vicinity of the blast; I figured it would just fall over or maybe go a couple of feet. Lyle found it later when he went to the upper pistol bay; IIRC it had landed close to the brush pile past the bay, so 75 or 100 yards is about right. The plate was bent impressively; IIRC about 90 degrees. It was a very stupid thing to do.
