Modern software requiring disabling of UAC? No thanks.

Picked up a D-Link DCS-930L for cheap; plugged it in, upgraded firmware, all that. Went to install the desktop software and it requires disabling UAC to run; I don’t know what kind of developers they have over a D-Link, but no, I’m not disabling UAC just to use your webcam.

  1. the *installer* required UAC? or the app itself?

    • The app, at runtime. At install time it changes a system setting to disable UAC, requiring a reboot. I cancelled the reboot and re-enabled UAC.

You can download the installer disk from the above link (you don’t need a camera) and see it for yourself.
